Who We are
In 1986 TCL embarked on a journey towards privatization and regional expansion. This strategy led to the listing of the company on the Trinidad Stock Exchange attracting over 6,000 shareholders with 16% of shares held by employees.
The expansion thrust commenced with the acquisition of Arawak Cement Co. Ltd. in Barbados and since then the company has transcended both geographical and cultural boundaries to lay a strong and sustainable foundation for future growth within the region.
Today, TCL has evolved into a Group of Companies, seven subsidiaries strong with vested regional interest from Jamaica in the North to Trinidad in the South with ongoing prospects for continued growth and regional wealth creation. Operating within a traditional western business construct, the Group is culturally distinguished in its unique ability to assimilate and harmoniously embed the varied characteristics of the people and cultures of the Caribbean with emphasis on maintaining effective relationships with all stakeholders.
The TCL Group now has over 1,100 employees dispersed throughout the region with a demographically young work force reflecting 1:4 female to male ratio composition with an average service profile of 11 years. The Group possesses a valuable pool of intellectual capital comprising managerial, skilled and semi-skilled professionals, trade and craftsmen and technicians who bring a wealth of experience and academic learning. This is evident in part by the fact that the Group’s Executive, Managerial and Senior professional cadre comprise just under 10% of the total workforce, 62% of whom possess second degrees and/or MBAs.
This storehouse of talent potential within the Group ranges from Mining Engineer to Health Safety & Environment Offices, Customer Relation Officer, Concrete Technologists, Marketing Development Specialist to Chemical, Mechanical and Electrical Technicians, Financial Analysts to Human Resource Professionals.
The result of this combination of talent, experience, energy and cultural integration has been the development of a unique persona for the Group. This persona with its supporting values have gained acceptance and recognition as “the TCL way”.
